Compare SideQuest and Rossum

SideQuest vs Rossum for QuickBooks PO automation

Rossum is an enterprise-grade document AI product. It reads invoices, POs, and contracts and outputs structured data. After that, you build the integration to your accounting system, the matcher against your catalog, and the operator UI for flagged items. SideQuest does the full PO-to-Estimate chain on QuickBooks Online, with the catalog matcher and operator UI built in.

How they differ

SideQuest reads emails. Rossum reads documents.

SideQuest's pipeline starts at Gmail — it watches a labeled inbox, pulls inbound POs, and processes attachments and body text. Rossum starts at the document. To use Rossum on emailed POs, you build the email watcher upstream of Rossum, then build the matcher and draft layer downstream.

SideQuest matches against your catalog out of the box

Rossum extracts line items as text. SideQuest takes line items and runs them through exact-SKU lookup, cross-reference matching, and description fuzzy match against your QuickBooks Online catalog. Failed matches surface to your rep in Claude Desktop for a one-time fix that the system learns from.

SideQuest writes to QuickBooks Online

SideQuest writes drafts to QuickBooks Online as Estimates via the official Intuit API. Submit happens after human review. Rossum does not write to QuickBooks; you build that integration. Common path: Rossum → Make/Zapier → QuickBooks, with the matcher logic in between.

Which one fits which shop

Rossum fits enterprise document processing

Rossum is built for high-volume mixed-document AP workflows where dozens of document types come in (invoices, POs, contracts, T&Es) and the model needs to learn each one. The pricing is enterprise; the integration work is enterprise. For a single workflow (sales POs to QuickBooks), it's overkill.

SideQuest fits the QuickBooks distributor

SideQuest is purpose-built for distributors and wholesalers on QuickBooks Online and Desktop. Single workflow, deep integration, no integration build. The connector ships with the matcher, the draft layer, and the operator UI included.

Different pricing models

Rossum prices per document and per integration. SideQuest prices per processed PO with tiered monthly limits. For a distributor doing 500-2000 POs/month, SideQuest is typically 80-90% cheaper than the Rossum equivalent build.

FAQ

If I already use Rossum for AP, can I add SideQuest for sales POs?

Yes. They run on different pipelines (Rossum on vendor invoices for AP, SideQuest on customer POs for sales-side). Customers who run both report no conflict.

Is SideQuest's OCR as accurate as Rossum's?

On clean digital POs (PDFs that contain text rather than scans), both products are essentially perfect. On scanned and photographed POs, Rossum's models are state of the art. SideQuest uses Tesseract first, optional Azure Document Intelligence for harder cases, then Claude's vision pass for the edge cases Tesseract can't handle. For most distributors that combination clears 95%+ on phone-camera POs.

Can I export from Rossum and feed SideQuest?

Not today as a supported flow. SideQuest's parser is the entry point of the pipeline; routing parsed Rossum output through SideQuest's matcher would require a custom integration. Reach out if it's an active question.
